1923 in Essen. Born into a family of artisans. Elementary school teaching as a mechanic and working as a repairman at a colliery in Mülheim an der Ruhr, in addition, he belonged to the mine rescue. From 1942 to 1945 soldiers of the Wehrmacht in the Second World War in part, several times wounded. From 1946 he was again working at his old job. He now lives in retirement Mausegatt in the mine colony. Alongside his literary activities Westerhoff was also active as a bandoneon player. From 1961 to 1967 Member of the "Group 61". Publications: Poems and Prose "(1966)," Local "(ASSO-Verlag, 1978)," Zwangsvereidigt "(Agenda-Verlag, 2005)," Moment-return "(Agenda-Verlag, 2009). Awards: Ruhr Prize for Art and Science of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr (1980).
